Jessie Murphy

Jessie_MurphyJessie Murphy was born and raised in New York City and her original songs and style have made her a favorite performer in her hometown and in New York’s legendary Antifolk scene. “There’s a cargo hold of humanity in the beautiful Jessie Murphy’s songs,” read last Summer’s Antifolk Fest program, “She packs houses, she wows crowds, she’s one to watch.” Jessie is also a frequent Village Voice choice. The paper once described singer-songwriter Jessie Murphy as sounding like both a “photonegative of Jimi Hendrix” and “Joni Mitchell’s scrappy kid sister with a voice like rippling silk.”

Jessie has recently gained significant international press and exposure with this year’s German Tour, From New York With Love. She has been featured in a number of European publications including The London Guardian and Germany’s Zitty Magazine. At home, she has been dubbed “a winning singer-songwriter” by the New Yorker and continues landing local club residencies, including one at New York’s famed club The Living Room for February 2006. Jessie’s long awaited EP, Room Alone, was released this past October to a sold out crowd at The Living Room in the East Village. Room Alone can now be purchased on i-Tunes, Amazon.com, and CDBaby.
